Jax is a short form of Jackson or Jaxon and so goes back to Jack and John, meaning "God is gracious". It is a modern American nickname that turned into a given name in its own right, helped by the motorcycle-club antihero Jax Teller in the TV series Sons of Anarchy, which ran from 2008. Jax entered the US top 1000 in 2007, peaked at number 208 in 2014 and ranks number 342 in 2025.
