Indiana is the name of the Midwestern state, coined in the 18th century from Latin to mean "land of the Indians". It has been used as a given name since the 1800s and gained a spirited, adventurous image through the Indiana Jones films. For girls Indiana has stayed between number 1800 and 2500 in the United States for the past decade, peaking at 1811 in 2021 and ranking 2202 in 2025 with 84 births.
