Hosanna comes from the Hebrew hoshia na, a cry that means "save, we pray" or "save now", which the crowds called out as Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. It has been used as a girls' name in English since the Puritans and belongs to the family of faith-filled word names like Genesis, Trinity and Mercy. Hosanna has never been in the US top 1000, but it climbed from number 2976 in 2015 to number 1480 in 2025, its best rank so far.
