Hermione is a Greek name derived from Hermes, the messenger of the gods, and means "of Hermes". In mythology she is the daughter of Helen and Menelaus, Shakespeare gave the name to the wronged queen in The Winter's Tale, and J. K. Rowling's Hermione Granger made it a byword for brains and loyalty. In the United States Hermione had fewer than five births in 2000, peaked at number 1678 in 2024 and ranks number 2008 in 2025.
