Cesar is the Spanish form of Caesar, the Roman family name of Julius Caesar, whose origin is uncertain; it is usually explained as "hairy" from the Latin caesaries or as "cut" from caesus. In the United States it honors labor leader Cesar Chavez, cofounder of the United Farm Workers. Cesar peaked at number 158 in 2004 and has drifted to number 385 in 2025.
