Enoch is a Hebrew name that means "dedicated" or "initiated". In Genesis Enoch is the father of Methuselah, a man who walked with God and was taken up to heaven without dying, which made him a favorite of the Puritans and gave Enoch Arden his place in Tennyson's poetry. In the United States the name re-entered the top 1000 in 2013, peaked at number 706 in 2023 and ranks number 746 in 2025.
