Elyjah is a modern spelling of Elijah, the Hebrew Eliyahu, which means "my God is Yahweh". The prophet Elijah, who was carried to heaven in a chariot of fire, made the name one of the great biblical classics, and the y-spelling gives it a contemporary twist. In the United States Elyjah ranked number 2586 in 2000, peaked at number 1361 in 2012 while Elijah itself was in the top 20, and stands at number 2545 in 2025.
