Elisha is a Hebrew name meaning "my God is salvation", from El, God, and yasha, to save. In the Bible Elisha is the prophet who inherits the mantle of Elijah and performs miracles throughout the books of Kings. The Puritans brought the name to New England, and it has stayed in modest use: Elisha has been in the US top 1000 since 2000, peaked at number 599 in 2004 and ranks number 789 among boys in 2025.
