Chany is a Yiddish pet form of Chana, the Hebrew original of Hannah, which means "grace" or "favor". It is used almost exclusively in Hasidic and other Orthodox Jewish communities, where names like Chany, Rivky and Malky are everyday choices. In the United States Chany ranked number 6544 in 2000, peaked at number 2072 in 2024 and stands at number 2127 among girls' names in 2025.
