Chana is the Hebrew form of Hannah and means "grace" or "favor", from the Hebrew chen. In the Bible Chana is the mother of the prophet Samuel, and the spelling with Ch- is the one used in Orthodox Jewish families, especially in New York. Chana ranked number 1011 in 2000, entered the US top 1000 in 2008 and has held between 670 and 860 since, ranking number 686 in 2025.
