Shaindy is a Yiddish pet form of Shaina or Sheindel, which comes from the Yiddish word shein and means "beautiful" or "pretty". It is used almost exclusively in Hasidic and other Orthodox Jewish communities, which is why most of its American births are concentrated in New York. In the United States Shaindy ranked number 3210 in 2000, peaked at number 2005 in 2021 and stands at number 2095 among girls' names in 2025.
