Canaan is the biblical name of the land promised to Abraham and his descendants, roughly today's Israel, Palestine and Lebanon. Its meaning is uncertain; the most common readings are "lowland" or "land of purple", after the purple dye traded along its coast. Canaan entered the US top 1000 in 2015, peaked at number 671 in 2016 and has settled at number 1044 in 2025.
