Azura is taken from azure, the word for "sky blue", which traveled from the Persian lazhward, the name of lapis lazuli, through Arabic and Old French into English. It is a color name in the same spirit as Scarlett and Violet. Azura has moved up steadily in the United States, from number 7220 in 2000 and number 4746 in 2015 to number 1841 in 2024 and number 1713 in 2025, its best rank yet.
