Aurora is the Latin word for "dawn" and the name of the Roman goddess of the morning; it also names the northern lights, aurora borealis. Disney's Sleeping Beauty is Princess Aurora, which made the name feel both regal and fairy-tale light. In the United States Aurora went from number 488 in 2000 to the top 100 in 2015 and ranks fifteenth in 2025, still rising.
