Aziel is a Hebrew name that appears in the Book of Chronicles as a short form of Jaaziel, the name of a Levite musician; it is usually explained as "God is my strength", from az, strength, and el, God. Its soft -iel ending puts it in the same family as Gabriel, Uriel and Jaziel, which is why Hispanic families in particular have embraced it. Aziel is a spectacular riser: it entered the US top 1000 in 2019 and jumped from number 2133 in 2015 to number 186 in 2025.
