Aviva is a modern Hebrew name derived from aviv, the word for "spring" or "springtime", the same word found in the city name Tel Aviv. It was coined in Israel in the 20th century as a feminine counterpart to Aviv and is popular in Jewish families. Aviva has slowly gained ground in the United States, from number 1781 in 2015 to number 1595 in 2025, its best rank so far.
