Atalia is a spelling of the Hebrew name Athaliah, which means "the Lord is exalted"; in the Bible Athaliah was the ruthless queen of Judah, the only woman to rule the kingdom, a story Racine turned into his tragedy Athalie. Modern parents tend to hear Natalia and Talia in it rather than the queen. In the United States Atalia ranked number 9983 in 2000, moved into the 2000s in the last decade and reached its best rank so far, number 2613, in 2025 with 66 girls.
