Astro comes from the Greek astron and simply means "star"; it is the building block of astronaut, astronomy and astrology. As a given name it is a 21st-century word name in the vein of Orion and Atlas, with a pop-culture glow from Astro Boy, the Jetsons' dog Astro and the Houston Astros. Astro first appeared in the national data in 2016 at number 10876, climbed quickly, peaked at number 2049 in 2023 and ranks number 2453 in 2025 with 55 boys.
