Anneliese is a German double name that joins Anna, from the Hebrew for "grace", with Liese, a short form of Elisabeth meaning "God is my oath". It was hugely popular in Germany between the 1920s and 1950s and crossed to America with German families. In the United States Anneliese first entered the top 1000 in 2005 at number 914, its peak so far, has drifted in the 1200s to 2000s since and ranks 1207 in 2025.
