Elise is a French short form of Elizabeth, which goes back to the Hebrew Elisheva and means "God is my oath" or "my God is abundance". Beethoven's piano piece Für Elise has kept the name on everyone's lips for two centuries. Elise has been in the US top 1000 since 2000, when it ranked number 254; it peaked at number 152 in 2012, held in the top 200 through the mid-2010s and ranks number 223 in 2025.
