Amarah is a spelling of Amara, a name with several independent roots: in the Igbo language of Nigeria it means "grace", in Sanskrit it means "immortal", and in Latin amarus means "bitter". The added h gives it the look of Sarah or Hannah. In the United States Amarah rose from number 2113 in 2015 to a peak of number 1161 in 2019 and ranks 1186 in 2025.
