Amari is a modern American name of uncertain origin; it is usually explained as meaning "strength" from an African reading, or as a form of the Hebrew Amariah, "God has promised". It is used for both boys and girls and sits comfortably beside names like Amir and Omari. Amari has been in the US top 1000 for boys since 2000, when it ranked number 682; it rose steadily to a peak of number 151 in 2023 and stands at number 185 in 2025.
