Aitana is a Spanish name taken from the Sierra de Aitana, a mountain range near Alicante, so it is usually glossed as "from the Aitana mountains"; the pre-Roman name of the range is of uncertain origin. The poet Rafael Alberti gave it to his daughter in 1941, and it has been a Spanish given name ever since. The Spanish singer Aitana has made it popular with a new generation. In the United States Aitana entered the top 1000 in 2015 at number 915 and has climbed to number 211 in both 2024 and 2025, its best rank so far.
