Zylah is a modern American respelling of Zyla or Zilah, often linked to the biblical Zillah, a Hebrew name that means "shade" or "shadow". The z and the -ah ending follow the popular pattern of Zariah and Nylah, which is where much of its appeal lies. Zylah was almost unused in 2000 and has risen steadily, reaching number 1535 in 2024 and number 1547 among US girls' names in 2025.
