Zarina comes from the Persian zarin and means "golden", which is why it is widespread from Iran across Central Asia to Pakistan and Malaysia; it also matches the title of a Russian tsarina. The name has an exotic yet easy sound for English speakers, close to Karina and Marina. In the United States Zarina peaked at number 2079 in 2015 and ranks number 2325 in 2025.
