Yassin comes from Ya Sin, the two Arabic letters that open the 36th chapter of the Quran, a chapter often called the heart of the Quran; the name is traditionally read as a title of the Prophet Muhammad, so it means "the one addressed by Ya Sin". It is very common in North Africa and Egypt. In the United States Yassin is rare, peaking at number 1988 in 2013 and ranking number 2764 in 2025.
