Von is a short name with more than one source: it is a short form of names like Lavon, Devon and Vaughn, and it also echoes the German nobility particle von, which means "of" or "from". In the United States it has been a sparingly used given name since the early 20th century and is sometimes a nickname for longer -von names. Von moved from number 4059 in 2000 to a peak of number 1858 in 2017 and stands at number 2142 in 2025.
