Vesper is the Latin word for "evening" and also names the "evening star"; vespers is the evening prayer of the church. Ian Fleming used it for Vesper Lynd in his first James Bond novel, Casino Royale, which was filmed in 2006 and gave the name a fresh, slightly mysterious air. Vesper is still rare in the United States, with a peak at number 2267 in 2023 and a rank of number 2482 for girls in 2025.
