Usman is the Urdu, Turkish and West African form of the Arabic Uthman, the name of the third caliph of Islam, who compiled the standard text of the Quran. The meaning is usually given as "baby bustard", a young steppe bird, in keeping with the old Arabian custom of animal names. Usman has risen in the United States from number 2961 in 2015 to number 1607 in 2025, its best position yet.
