Raphael is a Hebrew name meaning "God heals" or "God has healed", borne by the archangel who guides Tobias in the Book of Tobit. The Renaissance painter Raphael and one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles give it both high-culture and pop-culture credentials. Raphael has been in the US top 1000 throughout this century and has climbed from the 500s to number 394 in 2025, its best rank yet, while the Spanish spelling Rafael ranks even higher.
