Sunnie is a softened spelling of Sunny, an English word name that means exactly what it says: "sunny", bright and cheerful. Word names of this kind, like Daisy or Summer, have been part of American naming since the 19th century, but Sunnie itself is a recent arrival. It has risen from number 3523 in 2015 to number 1094 in 2025, its best rank so far, and now outranks the older spelling Sunny for girls.
