Stetson is an English surname of uncertain origin, known worldwide as the name of the classic American "cowboy hat" that John B. Stetson began making in 1865. As a first name it belongs to the western, ranch-flavored style that American parents have embraced in recent years. Stetson entered the top 1000 in 2013 and has climbed almost every year since, from number 775 in 2015 to number 136 in 2025, its best rank so far.
