Simeon is the Greek and Latin form of the Hebrew Shim'on, "he has heard", from the verb shama, to hear. In the Bible Simeon is a son of Jacob and the ancestor of one of the twelve tribes, and in the Gospel of Luke the aged Simeon blesses the infant Jesus in the temple. In the United States Simeon ranked number 898 in 2000, peaked at number 831 in 2003 and has since settled just outside the top 1000, at number 1094 in 2025.
