Shayla is a modern English name that is usually explained as a variant of Sheila, the Irish Síle, itself a form of Cecilia and so linked to the Latin caecus, "blind" or "dim-sighted"; many parents simply hear it as Shay plus the ending -la. It was especially popular around the turn of the millennium. Shayla stood at number 312 in 2000, peaked at number 297 in 2001, had slipped to number 797 by 2015 and ranks 1793 in 2025.
