Shania was made famous by the Canadian country singer Shania Twain, who has explained it as an Ojibwe phrase meaning "I'm on my way", although linguists have questioned that reading, so its true origin is uncertain. Before her, the name was practically unknown. Shania peaked at number 291 in 2000 at the height of Twain's success, fell out of the top 1000 in the following years and ranks number 2535 in 2025.
