Safa is an Arabic name meaning "purity" or "clarity". Al-Safa is one of the two small hills in Mecca between which pilgrims walk during the Hajj, in memory of Hagar's search for water for her son Ishmael. In the United States Safa sat between number 1600 and 2000 for most of the past decade, climbed to number 1139 in 2024 and reached number 1007 in 2025, its best rank so far.
