Roxy is the short form of Roxanne and Roxana, names that go back to the Persian Roshanak and mean "bright" or "dawn"; Roxana was the Bactrian princess who married Alexander the Great. On its own Roxy has a rock-and-roll swagger, helped along by the band Roxy Music and the character Roxie Hart in Chicago. Roxy ranked number 5459 in 2000, peaked at number 1560 in 2009 and has since settled around number 2300 to 3400, ranking number 2477 in 2025 with 72 girls.
