Roslyn is a variant of Rosalyn and Rosalind, a name the Normans brought to England from the Germanic elements hros, "horse", and lind, "soft" or "tender"; it was later reinterpreted as the Latin rosa linda, "pretty rose". The spelling also matches Roslin near Edinburgh, home of the famous Rosslyn Chapel. In the United States Roslyn was a favorite of the early 20th century and now sits just outside the top 1000, ranging from number 1155 in 2016 to number 1433 in 2025.
