Rook is an English word name with two meanings: the "rook" is a black bird of the crow family, from the Old English hroc, and the castle-shaped chess piece, whose name comes from the Persian rukh, a chariot. It fits the current taste for short, sharp boys' names like Knox and Reed. Rook ranked number 3075 in 2015, number 2091 in 2023 and reaches number 1972 in 2025, its best rank so far.
