Rhodes is an English surname with two sources: the Old English rod, "clearing", for someone who lived by a cleared patch of woodland, and the Greek island of Rhodes, whose name is traditionally linked to the word for "rose". The Rhodes Scholarship and the Rhodes electric piano give the name a scholarly and musical ring. In the United States Rhodes stood at number 2187 in 2015, entered the top 1000 in 2022 and reaches number 575 among boys' names in 2025, its best rank yet.
