Rebecca comes from the Hebrew Rivka and is usually explained as "to tie" or "to bind", often interpreted as a captivating or ensnaring beauty. In the Book of Genesis Rebecca is the wife of Isaac and mother of Jacob and Esau, and the Puritans made the name a staple of early America. Rebecca ranked number 39 in the United States in 2000, its best rank this century, and has eased steadily to number 350 in 2025.
