Raylan is a modern American name that blends Ray, the short form of Raymond, "wise protector", with the popular -lan ending of Dylan and Rylan. It was almost unknown until the TV series Justified introduced US Marshal Raylan Givens in 2010, a character created by novelist Elmore Leonard. Raylan entered the US top 1000 the following year, peaked at number 473 in 2015 and ranks number 802 in 2025.
