Ragnar is an Old Norse name composed of regin, "counsel" or the gods, and herr, "army", so it is read as "warrior of the gods" or army counsel. The legendary Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, hero of the television series Vikings, gave the name its recent American boost. Ragnar ranked number 3492 in 2015, climbed to its best rank of number 1723 in 2023 as the show ran its course and stands at number 2561 in 2025.
