Phineas is the English form of the Hebrew Pinchas, a name probably of Egyptian origin meaning "the Nubian", though folk tradition read it as "oracle" or "mouth of brass"; in the Bible it belongs to the grandson of Aaron. Showman P. T. Barnum was a Phineas, and the Disney series Phineas and Ferb made the name friendly to a new generation. Phineas peaked at number 1248 in the United States in 2010 and ranks at number 1616 in 2025.
