Patrick comes from the Latin Patricius and means "nobleman" or "patrician", a member of the Roman aristocracy. It is inseparable from Saint Patrick, the fifth-century missionary and patron saint of Ireland, whose feast on March 17 is celebrated with parades across the United States. Patrick was number 68 among American boys in 2000, has drifted downward since and ranks number 235 in 2025.
