Mecca is a place name used as a first name: it is the holiest city of Islam, the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, and in English the word has come to mean a "center that draws people" to it. The Arabic name Makkah is ancient and its meaning is uncertain. In the United States Mecca ranked number 8805 for boys in 2000, rose to a peak of number 1617 in 2023 and stands at number 2121 among boys' names in 2025.
