Malik is an Arabic name that means "king" and appears as Al-Malik among the ninety-nine names of God in Islam; a closely related word for king exists in Hebrew as well. In the United States it took off in the 1980s and 1990s, especially in African American families. Malik ranked number 176 in 2000 and has eased down since, holding fairly steady around the 370s and 390s for a decade before dipping to number 437 in 2025.
