Marguerite is the French form of Margaret, from the Greek margarites, "pearl"; in French the word also means "daisy", so the name carries both images. It belongs to Marguerite de Navarre, the Renaissance queen and writer, and to Marguerite Duras and Marguerite Yourcenar, two of the great French authors of the 20th century. In the United States Marguerite stood at number 1584 in 2000 and has held steady, ranking number 2505 among girls' names in 2025.
