Madelyn is an American spelling of Madeline, the English form of Magdalene, and means "woman from Magdala" or "of Magdala", the town on the Sea of Galilee that Mary Magdalene came from. The -lyn ending gives it a modern look while keeping the classic nickname Maddie. Madelyn ranked number 126 in the United States in 2000, entered the top 100 in 2008 and has stayed between number 58 and number 72 for the past decade, standing at number 71 among girls in 2025.
