Louella is a 19th-century American blend of Louise and Ella; Louise carries the Germanic meaning "famous warrior", and Ella is usually read as "all" or "fairy maiden". The name was common in the early 1900s, when Hollywood gossip columnist Louella Parsons was a household name, and it has come back as part of the revival of lacy vintage names like Luella and Lottie. Louella rose from number 3683 in 2015 to number 1469 in 2024 and ranks 1475 in 2025, still outside the top 1000.
